i remember i was looking through every single site listed on www.iloveyourtshirt.com, because i wanted some fresh t-shirts. I eventually got to bbcicecream.com. I remember seeing the designs and being like "whoa, this is exactly what i was looking for". I browsed the site over the course of a couple of days and had all this stuff picked out that i was going to order, and i hadn't noticed the prices until i added a bunch of stuff to my cart. Then i was like "WTF?!?!?" and i just blew it off until i got a job and got enough money to buy the shit.

at First, I Thouht It Was Overpriced....even When My Bf Offered To Buy Me Stuff I Still Thought It Wasnt Worth It Because Most Of The Logos Were Too Repetitive. Ive Always Liked Pharrell So He Was A Big Influence On Me Buying Bape. Had Friends In Bws Even Before I Started Buying Bape. Dated Sum Bape Heads. Ape Generals Logo Just Got Me. Well I just liked being fresh, and I was like "well, this seems to be the new thing" so I bought an og blue camo for like 200 from a friend, and then I really started liking everything that had to do with bape.

my favorite rapper wears it!!!!! LoL, hell no, that ain't it. something different and exclusive (back then it was harder to get) Walked by the Kyoto's BWS a couple of times then finally copped some bapestas and T's. Interested in it before, couldn't afford any of it, but since i stepped my game up, 1 of the reasons i go to japan n HK is for the BWS and BBC stores.

Honestly, I wondered why they were so overpriced.
But then I found that one pair I just had to have, and I'm loving them.

When I first opened the box, I was shocked at how bright they were.

Don't flame me, but when I saw the camo with rhinestones, I thought it was crazy ugly. But I've always loved the shoes and the shark, so I'm trying to get one of those for under 200. (I know I can't.)

wondered into the BWS in harajuku in 2000 and thought "hasnt this guy just stolen the pic from planet of the apes?" but did really love the camo, just too much for my pocket at the time. re-discovered it a few years later and wished i had splashed the first time.

Some dudes on a dutch forum were talking about it, so when I hit up a local boutique (Patta) I asked the dude if he sold it. He said he didn't, but told me about the brand and the lining up and everything, and near the end he mentioned you could get the real gear in Hong Kong, where I just happened to be going 2 weeks later. Got my first Bape tee there at the Anytime store, and the rest is history ;) .

Highpoint was visiting several BWS in Japan this summer, of course.

when i first saw bape in 2005, i saw a pair of orange and green chompers that my friend had bought from bws nyc. i was like, what are these? i loved the colorway, because they were very different. he told me they were "bapes" and then showed me the website and i was like cool. i met another one of our friends that had some bapestas as well and at that time they formally introduced me to the bape brand. i hooked up with them about 3 weeks later to make my first trek to bws nyc. we stood in line and my first thoughts were like "wow". the colorways of the various bapestas just caught my eye like that. so much, that day i bought the italy chompers and the milo red bapestas for my first items. and the rest is history...

GOOD THREAD...
this feels like a AA meeting. LOL!!!
HI, my name is jinikari, first time i got introduced to bape was by the j-pop duo m-flo and of course it was through VERBAL. A big fan of V. At first i didnt understand what the big deal was for him to wear bape. but more and more he showed up on mv and interviews wearing bape. i loved it. more and more, i realize how addctive i am to the brand.
my only regret i have... if only i knew about the brand back in 2002 when i used to visit japan every school break... damn you ex-gf!!! why didnt you tell me of this delightful company!!!

My first bape experience was long ago when i saw some dude in the craziest hoody i ever have seen. (milo multi color hoody). Right after i surfed the internet for more info, and found the exactly same hoody at bt. I bought it and still have it. Bape is so rare in denmark, and thats what keeps me addicted. I feel fresh everytime i wear bape in the streets and so on. :)

my first impressions of bape? something elusive, rock and roll, underground, mysterious. it was like an exclusive pack of people who wore it and if people recognised it then they were cool people. a friend of mine works on ian brown's tour team and has rocked it for damn-near a decade, has hooked me up with some shit most of you would never see ... then hip-hop and america got hold of it and the rest is piss-history

Yeah definately have to agree with you mate. I remember mates of mine who worked at Mo Wax used to rock it and when you saw people wearing it you would ask "Where did you get that" and they would reply "My mate got it for me from Japan" and you would just go "Noooooooooo I want it but cant have it"

I have to say when it went to the US it was its downfall, not because the US shouldnt have had its own shop but it coincided with that whole "We can just put out any old crap and people will buy it" phase which we are still seeing now.

its funny how it originated as such an underground subculture brand along side undercover and other brands... and now fape is on every dude trying to be cool. where as most of the other brands have stayed true to their exclusivity and design roots

nigo is more businessman then designer.

the opposite can be said of jun takashi, fujiwara, watanabe and others

Its called Greed isnt it. Nigo doesnt really have any style/individuality its all ripped off from other people who he desires to be like, so its hardly suprising that when he got the chance he ruined it with the stuff we see now.

exactly he's ripped off nike, puma, countless corporate logos ... the guy has zero originiality and it's admired like it's the greatest thing ever.

i can't lie, i've owned a closet of nothing but bape at one point. he brought the camo print to life, but since hip-hop and america got hold of it, it's desire has dropped rapidly.

nigo as a businessman is someone i admire, but as an originator? please, he can't think of shit by himself. his most desirable parka was designed by skate-thing!

i know people who have met nigo and they've all told me he's doing nothing but staring outside of his car window looking at books/billboards/posters for which logo he can take and manipulate for himself.
